The Future of Work: Creativity and Communication

As we look towards a tech fuelled future, what are the human skills that will set us apart from our artificial colleagues, and how can we develop them in the years ahead?

In the face of a technological revolution, we need companies, governments, universities and schools to focus on the uniquely human skills that will set us apart from Artificial Intelligence rather than solely on technical prowess. Business leaders need to be proactive in their hiring and retraining of employees to focus on building a workforce centred around creativity, emotional intelligence, communication skills and cognitive flexibility.

The World Economic Forum agenda for 2020 outlines the growing need for these skills:

"There’s a common misconception that we’ll all need to develop highly technological or scientific skills to succeed. Yet while it will be necessary for people to work with technology, we’re also seeing a growing need for people to develop specialised skills for how they interact with each other. These include creativity, collaboration and interpersonal dynamics, as well as skills related to specialised sales, human resources, care and education roles." Saadhia Zahidi, World Economic Forum

If there was ever a time to focus on fostering workplace empathy and space for dialogue that time is NOW!!
